Deposed Honduran visits Dominican RepublicPosted: 02:44 PM ET
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (CNN) - Traveling around the hemisphere as he seeks support for a return to power, deposed Honduran President Jose Manuel Zelaya paid a surprise visit Friday to the Dominican Republic. Zelaya had come from Costa Rica, where he met with President Oscar Arias. The Costa Rican leader is trying to broker a deal between Zelaya and provisional Honduran President Roberto Micheletti, who was sworn into office hours after Zelaya was removed by the military and flown to Costa Rica on June 28. In Santo Domingo, Dominican President Leonel Fernandez, who has had good relations with Zelaya, condemned the coup and said Zelaya should be restored to power. Zelaya was scheduled to leave Santo Domingo on Friday but it was not immediately publicly known where he would go next. |
