By Harmeet Shah Singh CNN NEW DELHI, India (CNN) - Monsoon floods in India have killed at least 232 people and affected nearly 160,000 since June, according to federal authorities. Most of the deaths - 64 - occurred in the state of Karnataka, followed by 46 in Kerala, 35 in West Bengal and 33 in Rajasthan. Gujarat state has reported 32 deaths, Uttar Pradesh 15, Andhra Pradesh five and Tamil Nadu two, according to the latest countrywide flood report by federal disaster officials. This season's flooding has impacted 159,427 people across India so far, said the report from the disaster management division of the federal home ministry. Up to 136,850 people have been affected in the northeastern state of Assam alone, the report said. India's main weather office has predicted vigorous monsoons over India's west coast and widespread rains in eastern and northeastern regions. |
