1 killed, 18 injured in Florida lighting strike

(CNN) - A lightning strike at a Lakeland, Florida, residence Saturday killed one person and injured several others taking part in Fourth of July festivities, authorities said.

At least 80 people from Iglesia Batista Marentha Church had gathered at the residence to play soccer and participate in other activities for the holiday, said Cindy Rodriguez, spokeswoman for the Polk County sheriff's department. Lightning struck a barn on the property, sending 18 people to area hospitals.
