London apartment building fire kills two children

LONDON, England (CNN) - A fire broke out Friday night in an apartment building in south London, killing two children and injuring 16 other people, London officials said.

The fire started on the fourth floor then rapidly spread to the 11th floor, gutting apartments, fire officials said.

A 3-week-old baby and a 7-year-old child died in the blaze, London Metropolitan police said.

Firefighters rescued 16 people who were taken to a hospital, the London Fire Brigade told CNN.
