State attorney general's office says it's joining Jackson probePosted: 09:25 PM ET
From Drew Griffin LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) - The California State Attorney General's office said Thursday that it is helping the Los Angeles police department in its investigation of singer Michael Jackson's death. The news comes a day after two federal law enforcement sources told CNN that the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is looking into whether prescription drugs were involved in the death of the pop icon. The attorney general's office said it will assist police in sifting through information in a state database that monitors controlled medication. The database, known as CURES (Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System), contains an estimated 86 million records that lists all doctors who prescribe such medication, the amount, the date and the person who receives it. Authorities said the database was used in the investigation following the death of former model and reality TV show star Anna Nicole Smith. Speculation about the role of drugs has been swirling since Jackson died on June 25 at his rented estate in Holmby Hills. Authorities are awaiting autopsy toxicology results. |
