Royal Air Force jet crashes in Scotland, 2 dead

(CNN) - A Royal Air Force jet crashed Thursday in the Argyll region of Scotland, killing its crew of two, the Ministry of Defence said.

The plane was a Tornado F3, the ministry said, a defensive jet based at RAF Leuchars in Scotland.

An investigation has begun into the cause of the crash, the Ministry of Defence told CNN.

The crew's next of kin have been informed, the ministry said in a statement.
