Mexico seeks 9 more arrests in connection with day-care firePosted: 07:30 PM ET
MEXICO CITY, Mexico (CNN) - The Mexican federal attorney general's office on Wednesday ordered the arrest of nine people in connection with a day-care fire that killed 48 children. The arrest warrants are for public officials from the Mexican Institute of Social Security, which owned the day-care center, as well as private individuals connected to it, Attorney General Eduardo Medina Mora said at a news conference. Medina did not release the names of those the government is seeking. The June 5 fire started at a warehouse that shared a building with the ABC day-care center in Hermosillo, in northwestern Mexico. Fourteen children remain hospitalized because of the blaze, the state-run news agency Notimex reported. Wednesday's announcement follows one from two weeks ago, when Mexican officials announced they had ordered the arrest of 14 people who worked at the warehouse. |
