(CNN) - A man is facing federal charges for allegedly taking his clothes off during a cross-country flight, authorities said Wednesday. Keith Anthony Wright was arrested Tuesday night after US Airways flight 705, bound for Los Angeles, California, from Charlotte, North Carolina, was diverted to Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Albuquerque FBI office said in a statement. Witnesses told authorities that Wright removed all of his clothes. "Wright was allegedly unresponsive when flight attendants requested he put his clothes back on and became combative when flight attendants attempted to cover him with a blanket and fasten his seat belt," the FBI said. Two off-duty police officers were on the flight and helped the flight attendants restrain Wright, the FBI said. He faces charges of interference with flight crew members and attendants, and will appear in federal court in Albuquerque on Thursday morning. "A psychological evaluation may be ordered by the court at that time," the FBI statement said. Wright's age and hometown were not given. Passenger Marius Langlete, of Oslo, Norway, was on the flight, having planned a vacation in Los Angeles. Langlete told CNN he was sitting across the aisle from the man. At some point during the flight, he said, the man appeared to be going to sleep but then began taking his clothes off. Langlete said he tried to tell the man to stop but he continued disrobing and then appeared to go to sleep. Langlete called for a flight attendant, who tried to rouse him unsuccessfully. She then put a blanket over him, which he immediately threw off, Langlete said. An off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer helped restrain the man, as Langlete held his legs, Langlete said. Exacerbating the situation, according to the FBI, was the fact that flight attendants were simultaneously trying to deal with a medical emergency unrelated to the man. |
