Doctors say N.Y.'s Cardinal needs pacemakerPosted: 09:54 AM ET
By Chris Kokenes The decision was made by doctors after Egan, who is the archbishop of New York, underwent tests Saturday night after complaining of stomach pains. Archdiocese spokesman Joseph Zwilling said he expects to speak with the cardinal later in the morning but noted that his stomach pains are "less severe." "It's not an emergency," said Zwilling who added that the decision on when a pacemaker will be implanted is a matter of timing and that it could be days or weeks. The cardinal, who turned 77 on April 2, will retire as archbishop on April 15 when Archbishop Timothy Dolan will be installed. The cardinal has led the archdiocese since June 2000. |
