Some GOP conservatives like Romney for 2012Posted: 05:22 PM ET
WASHINGTON (CNN) - The Conservative Political Action Conference wrapped up Saturday with radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh delivering the keynote address and activists picking former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney as their favorite presidential candidate for the third year in a row. Romney took 20 percent of the votes in the three-day straw poll of 1,757 attendees at the conference. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who delivered the Republican response to President Barack Obama's speech to Congress Tuesday night, was second with 14 percent. U.S. Rep. Ron Paul and Alaska governor Sarah Palin both took 13 percent and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was the only other official cracking double digits with 10 percent. Participants were given a list of names - along with "undecided," which 9 percent chose - and asked which deserves to be the 2012 Republican nominee for president. |
