U.S., international community seek cease-fire

WASHINGTON (CNN) - As Israel vowed to continue its attacks on Gaza and Hamas rockets rained down on southern Israeli towns, U.S. and and other international players scrambled in the background to bring about a cease-fire as soon as possible.

State Department spokesman Gordon Duguid said that the diplomats are not wavering in their efforts.

"The effort to bring about a cease-fire continues," Dugoid told reporters in an off-camera briefing. "We are not allowing any of the events that may occur before that happens to dissuade us in our efforts to bring about a cease-fire ... that is durable and sustainable."
