Broncos fire Shanahan

(CNN) - Add Denver Broncos' Mike Shanahan to the list of NFL coaches looking for a new place to work in 2009.

Shanahan was fired as head coach on Tuesday after serving as head coach for 14 years and assistant coach for seven years. The Broncos lost the last three games of the 2008 season, including the finale, a 52-to-21 failure against the San Diego Chargers Sunday night.

The Broncos had been expected to be playoff contenders and instead ended the season 8-8, out of the playoff picture.
