Iraq approves foreign troop planPosted: 05:54 AM ET
From Jill Dougherty BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) - The Iraqi Presidency Council Sunday approved a resolution that will allow non-U.S. foreign troops to remain in Iraq after a U.N. mandate expires at the end of the year. It was the last step for final adoption of the resolution, which won parliamentary approval on Tuesday. It was hammered out by Iraq's main political parties a week ago after an impasse among parliamentary factions that threatened to push it beyond the December 31 deadline. A separate, previously approved agreement authorizes U.S. troops to remain. |
