Asia, Pacific stocks mostly up

(CNN) - Asian and Pacific stocks were mostly up Wednesday after a volatile day on Wall Street that ended with a recharged rally.

Tokyo's Nikkei index was up 1.89 percent in late afternoon trading, while Australia's All Ordinaries index closed about 0.9 percent higher.

Seoul's KOSPI index was down about 0.05 percent in mid-afternoon trading, a rare decline in the region.

Chinese markets in Shanghai and Hong Kong were both up, with the Shanghai Composite index rising 4.01 percent at closing time and the Hang Seng up 1.93 percent late in the day.
