Israeli airstrike kills two brothers in Gaza, Palestinians say

Posted: 08:44 AM ET

JERUSALEM (CNN) - An Israeli airstrike in Rafah, Gaza's southern-most
city, killed two Palestinian brothers and wounded four other people Tuesday,
Palestinian medical sources reported.

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed the air attack, and said the military
was responding to a group who fired mortars near the Israeli army's Kerem
Shalom outpost near the Gaza-Israel-Egypt border. The IDF said about six
mortars were fired.

Rafah, located at Gaza's border with Egypt, is the only Gaza border
crossing that is not maintained by Israel. It is jointly maintained by Egypt
and the Palestinian Authority and monitored by the European Union.

The crossing generally remains closed.  However, Palestinian security
forces said Tuesday that Egyptians opened the crossing to allow 400
Palestinians to return to Gaza.
