DNI chief blames LeT for Mumbai attacksPosted: 08:47 PM ET
From Pam Benson WASHINGTON (CNN) - Last week's attacks in Mumbai, India, were carried out by the same group responsible for two previous attacks in India, the chief intelligence officer of the United States said Tuesday. "This same group that we believe is responsible for Mumbai had a similar attack in 2006 on a train (that) killed a similiar number of people, around 2006," Director of National Intelligence Michael McConnell said during an appearance at Harvard University. "If you go back to 2001, there was an attack on parliament." McConnell did not specifically name the organization, but the Indian government and U.S. counterterrorism officials have said Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT) was behind the July 2006 attack on several crowded commuter trains and stations in Mumbai and the December 2001 attack on the Indian parliament in New Delhi that left nine people dead. |
