American-Israeli rabbi among dead

NEW YORK (CNN) - Rabbi Gavriel Noach Holtzberg - who had dual U.S.-Israeli citizenship - and his Israeli wife, Rivka, were among the dead in Chabad House in Mumbai, India, said Rabbi Zalman Shmotkin, a spokesman for Chabad-Lubavitch International in the United States.

The couple's toddler son, Moshe, escaped with his nanny, it said in a written statement.

Their bodies were found with those of three other hostages in the Chabad House, an Israeli Foreign Ministry official told an Israeli news station Friday. The spokesman, Haim Hoshen, did not identify them by name or nationality.

Gavriel Holtzberg made a phone call to the Israeli Consulate to report that gunmen were in his house, the organization said. "In the middle of the conversation, the line went dead," the organization said. It did not say when the phone call took place.
