New rules give military families time off to care for wounded

From CNN's Adam Levine

WASHINGTON (CNN) - New regulations from the Labor Department will allow family members of wounded or injured troops to take up to 26 weeks off over a 12-month period to take care of their relatives.

It is the first time the Family and Medical Leave Act law, which spells out the rules for employers and employees when it comes to needing time off to deal with medical issues, has covered military families.

The new regulations, as part of an updated Family Medical Leave Act, will be published Monday and take effect mid-January.

While the rules expand help for military families, there are new definitions and refined regulations for other employees related to medical leave that employees may find more restrictive.
