BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) — A U.S. soldier was killed by small-arms fire while fighting suspected al Qaeda in Iraq militants in northern Iraq on Tuesday, the U.S. military said. An Iraqi police officer and an al Qaeda in Iraq member were also killed, the military said. The battle began when U.S. soldiers and Iraqi police surrounded a home in Mosul after a family told them a man in a suicide vest had entered, the military said. The fight ended when the U.S. troops called in an airstrike on the home, destroying it and killing the insurgent inside, the military said. |
