Jury selected in Stevens trialPosted: 02:02 PM ET
WASHINGTON (CNN) - A jury panel was seated Wednesday in the corruption trial of Alaska Republican Sen. Ted Stevens and will hear opening statements Thursday morning (at 9:30a ET). Eleven women and five men make up the panel of 12 regular jurors and four alternates. The jurors will not be told whether they are alternates until the end of the trial. Stevens is fighting a seven-count indictment accusing him of filing false financial statements on mandatory Senate disclosure forms. The indictment says he failed to report hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of repair work on his Alaska home paid for by Veco Energy, an oil services contractor and one of the largest employers in Alaska. He is not accused of accepting bribes. |
