WASHINGTON (CNN) — Some 10 days after Hurricane Gustav made landfall on the Gulf Coast, the Department of Energy has agreed to release 380,000 barrels of oil from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve to two oil companies, it said in a statement. On Thursday, 130,000 barrels will be released to Placid Oil’s Port Allen Refinery, according to the department statement. An additional 250,000 barrels will be delivered Thursday to Marathon Petroleum’s Midwest refineries. Marathon received 250,000 barrels from the reserve in a shipment granted by the Department of Energy on September 8. That shipment was made after Hurricane Gustav disrupted the shipment of oil to Marathon’s refineries in Robinson, Illinois, and Catlettsburg, Kentucky. |
