4.0 quake shakes Oakland area

SAN FRANCISCO, California (CNN) - A 4.0 magnitude earthquake with an epicenter 14 miles (22 km) east of Oakland, California, was measured by the U.S. Geological Survey at 9 p.m. Friday night.

There were no initial reports of damage or injuries.

The quake's epicenter was about 10 miles (16 km) below the surface, the USGS reported.
