NEW ORLEANS (CNN) — Across Louisiana 433,657 households and offices were without power Monday as Hurricane Gustav swept through the state, Entergy, Louisiana’s largest provider of electric power, said. The company said the number was a result of widespread damage to its distribution system. There were 114,264 outages in the New Orleans metro area and another 164,362 in the surrounding parishes, it said. Repair crews may not get out until Wednesday, according to Entergy representative Phil Allison. “Once the storm subsides our crews can get into affected areas,” he said. “Our bucket trucks don’t go out unless the wind is under 30 mph.” |
