(CNN) — Eleven of the 12 decapitated male bodies found Thursday in the state of Yucatan have been identified, an official said Friday. Nine of the 11 had criminal records, said Jose Alonso Guzman, attorney for the state, in a written statement. The federal government has begun an investigation into the killings, 11 of which occurred in one place. Yucatan’s governor, Ivonne Ortega Pacheco, said the killings appeared to be the result of disputes between drug cartels. The 11 bodies in Chichi Suarez and the 12th, in Buctzotz, were discovered late Thursday afternoon after an anonymous caller told police about them, Guzman said. The heads have not been found, said Yetel Castillo of the department of communication for Yucatan. |
