Democrats nominate Obama for president

DENVER, Colorado (CNN) - Democrats nominated Barack Obama to be their candidate for president in November, making him the first African-American nominee from a major party.

In a carefully staged maneuver, Obama's defeated rival Hillary Clinton called on Democrats to interrupt a roll call vote and nominate him by acclamation.
