Rocker held by Thai police

(CNN) - Shortly after British rock star Gary Glitter was freed from a Vietnamese prison after having served nearly three years for child molestation, he was detained by Thai authorities at an airport in Bangkok.

Thai police said they were detaining the 64-year-old musician in an airport transit area and planned to ensure he was aboard Thai Airways International's next flight to London.

That flight was scheduled to depart Bangkok Wednesday at 12:25 p.m. (1:25 a.m. ET) and arrive in London at 6:30 p.m. (1:30 p.m. ET).

Glitter, born Paul Gadd, was a rock institution during the 1970s – topping the music charts multiple times
