No deal in Zimbabwe, official saysPosted: 03:53 PM ET
HARARE, Zimbabwe (CNN) - The leader of a splinter group of the Movement for Democratic Change on Wednesday labeled as "totally false" news media reports that his group has signed a deal with the ruling ZANU-PF Party. "We are in agreement with everything except one aspect on this," the leader of the MDC faction, Arthur Mutambara, told reporters. "In our discussions, Morgan Tsvangirai was agreeable on that aspect and then he changed his mind and asked for an opportunity to reflect and consult and then re-engage the process," Mutambara said, referring to the MDC leader who challenged President Robert Mugabe's June re-election bid, but withdrew from the contest days before the vote after accusing Mugabe's supporters of orchestrating a campaign of beatings, intimidation and murders against the MDC. Mutambara described the discussions among himself and representatives of Mugabe and Tsvangirai as "tripartite" - "All three must agree for there to be an agreement." |
