Georgia, Russia OK cease-fire

TBILISI, Georgia (CNN) - Georgia's president has agreed to a six-point plan announced by the Russian and French presidents earlier in the day that aims to settle the conflict over Georgia's separatist territories, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said late Tuesday.

The plan stops short of specifically addressing the issue of Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"This is an overall document which will be underlined and guaranteed by the (U.N.) Security Council," said Sarkozy, a central figure in the negotiations in his role as president of the European Union, at a news conference with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili.

"We are in an environment of war and both sides need to be aware of the issues and both need to make an effort to understand each other," Sarkozy said.
