South Ossetian officials say 1,600 dead

MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) - About 1,600 people have died in two days of fighting in Tskhinvali, the capital of the breakaway Georgian territory of South Ossetia, the Russian news agency Interfax reported, quoting a spokeswoman for the South Ossetian Information and Press Committee.
