Kyrgyzstan raid targets U.S. unitPosted: 05:44 PM ET
(CNN) - About a dozen U.S. military personnel in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, for a training mission found themselves raided Monday by local police who stormed a house the Americans were renting, seizing arms and ammunition, including assault rifles and machine guns, according to a U.S. official familiar with the incident. The official asked for anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the matter. The U.S. personnel were in the country at the invitation of the government to provide counterdrug and counterterrorism training for Kyrgyzstan security forces, the official said. But apparently other parts of the government were not informed about why the Americans were there. |
