WASHINGTON (CNN) — An associate of former Rep. Curt Weldon, R-Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty Friday to destroying evidence in an ongoing FBI corruption investigation. Lobbyist and Weldon friend Cecelia Grimes admitted in a plea agreement that she had attempted to throw away campaign and travel records that had been subpoenaed by a federal grand jury in Washington. Grimes acknowledged she had thrown some of the demanded documents into garbage containers and placed them in front of her house for trash pickup. They were recovered by the FBI. Grimes admitted she had also pitched her Blackberry device into a trash can at a restaurant to prevent the FBI from reviewing certain e-mail messages that would be of interest to investigators. |
