PARIS, France (CNN) — Sen. Barack Obama, on a European trip aimed at sending election-year messages home, expressed friendship Friday with French President Nicolas Sarkozy and vowed to implement a foreign policy aimed at strengthening alliances. “I can say affirmatively an effective U.S. foreign policy will be based on our ability not only to project power, but also to listen and to build consensus,” Obama said at a joint media appearance with Sarkozy. Sarkozy, in turn, heaped praise on “my dear Barack Obama,” while emphasizing that France is not weighing in on the U.S. presidential election. Speaking at a joint media appearance, he added, “Barack Obama’s adventure is an adventure that rings true in the hearts and minds of the French and of Europeans.” |
