China says it has 'cracked' Olympic terror group in ShanghaiPosted: 09:33 AM ET
BEIJING, China (CNN) - China's state-run media Thursday reported that police have "cracked" an international terrorist group that was planning to attack Olympic venues in Shanghai. Shanghai's Public Security Bureau received information about the group, according to the Xinhua report, citing the bureau's deputy director, Chen Jiulong. No other details were available in the brief report. It is the latest terror crackdown announced by Chinese authorities in the run-up to the Olympic Summer Games, which kick off on August 8 in host city Beijing. China announced two weeks ago that it disrupted five terrorist groups in the predominantly Muslim Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region because it suspected them of plotting to attack the games. |
