(CNN) — A strong earthquake injured 92 people and destroyed 31 buildings in northern Japan on Thursday, authorities said. The magnitude 6.8 earthquake rattled north-central Japan, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It injured at least 92 people, including many elderly residents, police said. The injured include a 72-year-old woman who was hurt when a closet fell on her head and an 83-year-old man who fell out of bed and hurt his spine, police said. The quake destroyed 31 houses or buildings and caused landslides in six locations. Train service was canceled in parts of the affected area. |
