Tropical storm heads for YucatanPosted: 09:12 PM ET
MIAMI, Florida (CNN) - Storm warnings went up for the Yucatan Peninsula on Sunday after Tropical Storm Dolly emerged in the western Caribbean Sea, while a fading Tropical Storm Cristobal skirted the Outer Banks of North Carolina. At 8 p.m. ET, Dolly packed top winds of 45 mph (64 km/h), according to the National Hurricane Center. It was centered about 125 miles (200 km) southeast of the resort city of Cozumel, moving northwest at nearly 14 mph - a course that would take it across the Yucatan late Sunday, forecasters projected. Meanwhile, Cristobal continued heading past the Outer Banks on North Carolina's coast. The storm's wind speeds increased to from 45 to 50 mph Sunday evening. Forecasters say Cristobal will head away from U.S. shores. The storm was centered 65 miles (105 km) east-northeast of Cape Lookout, moving northeast at about 9 mph, and forecasters predicted it would gain little strength in the next two days. |
