MIAMI, Florida (CNN) — A tropical depression that formed late Friday near the Carolina coasts was strengthening Saturday, the National Hurricane Center said, with winds approaching tropical storm strength. A tropical storm warning was issued for an area from South Santee River, South Carolina, to the North Carolina-Virginia border. As of 11 a.m. Saturday, the center of TD 3 was located about 90 miles (140 km) east of Charleston, South Carolina, and about 250 miles (400 km) southwest of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. It was moving northeast at about 7 mph, forecasters said. “On this track, the center of the depression is expected to move along the coasts of South and North Carolina today and tomorrow.” |
