KATHMANDU, Nepal (CNN) — A bus carrying 52 passengers hit a pothole on a Nepalese highway and plunged into a river 60 miles (100 kilometers) west of Kathmandu on Friday night, police said. At least 15 people, including three women and two children, died and 28 others were injured, according to Gyan Bikram Shah, a senior police official. Rescuers searched for the river Saturday morning for eight missing passengers, he said. Old buses, inexperienced drivers and poor roads in the mountains of Nepal combine to make bus crashes a common occurrence there. |
