BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) - British Prime Minister Gordon Brown made an unannounced visit to the Iraqi capital Saturday and held talks with Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki on bilateral relations, the Iraqi government said.

Brown and al-Maliki held two rounds of talks, one private, that were "honest and had positive results," the government said. Both leaders stressed the importance of building long-term relations between Iraq and Britain, the future of the British presence in Iraq, and economic issues, the government said.

Brown is scheduled to talks with other senior Iraqi officials and leaders.
