Organization says U.S. should take refugeesPosted: 04:35 PM ET
From CNN's Charley Keyes (CNN) - Palestinian refugees along the Iraq-Syria border are so desperate they may accept a U.N. offer to go to Sudan, a country widely condemned for atrocities and genocide in its Darfur region. The organization Refugees International is asking the United States government to intervene and resettle the Palestinians in the United States instead. So far the State Department has rebuffed the request, saying the relocation plan is voluntary and is the best option available to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). |
