(CNN) — Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura says he won’t run for a U.S. Senate seat, despite hinting at making such an announcement on CNN’s “Larry King Live.”

The deadline for entering the race is Tuesday, and Ventura said last week that he was still weighing whether to run.

Ventura, an independent, won a single term as governor in 1998. He beat Coleman and Hubert Humphrey III, the scion of a Minnesota Democratic dynasty, in one of the more improbable upsets in recent political history.
