Mercenary sentenced to 34 yearsPosted: 01:21 PM ET
(CNN) - British mercenary Simon Mann was sentenced to 34 years in prison Monday for plotting a coup in Equatorial Guinea, said a court official in that nation's capital, Malabo. During the trial, Mann testified that he was a "junior" in the organization that plotted to overthrow the country's president in 2004, and that Lebanese businessman Eli Calil was the man in charge. Mann is a former British army commando who was arrested four years ago after a plane carrying him and about 60 mercenaries landed in Zimbabwe. |
