GOLETA, California (CNN) — The wildfire threatening this coastal Santa Barbara County city burned through nearly 1,700 more acres between Friday night and Saturday morning, but containment of the blaze grew as well, the United States Forest Service said. The Gap Fire grew to 8,357 acres, said Marian Kadota of the Forest Service, but containment increased from 14 percent to 24 percent as firefighters made “good progress” on the southern end of the fire. Winds calmed down after midnight, she said, and Saturday morning dawned calm with more humidity in the air than in previous days. The focus Saturday was being put on the northeast flank of the fire, she said. |
