BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) — Coalition troops in northwestern Iraq killed two people and detained others Thursday in raids targeting al Qaeda in Iraq, the U.S. military said. Troops killed one militant near Ribat, a town along the Euphrates River near the Iraq-Syria border, and another in Sharqat, south of Mosul. An “alleged terrorist leader” and an aide were captured in a raid in Mosul, where U.S. and Iraqi troops have been fighting al Qaeda in Iraq. |
