BEIRUT, Lebanon (CNN) — The death toll from this week’s clashes between
supporters of rival political groups in the northern Lebanon rose to nine after
one person succumbed to his wounds, Internal Security Forces said Wednesday.

The violence, between Sunni supporters of the Western-backed majority in
parliament against members of a sect loyal to the Hezbollah-led opposition, has
also left 66 people wounded in the city of Tripoli.

Lebanon’s government and opposition lawmakers have not been able to
resolve their disagreements on the makeup of a new Cabinet. They continue to
differ over key ministerial appointments.
