Fire delays opening of Universal Studios theme park

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) - A massive fire at Universal Studios has
forced officials to delay opening the southern California theme park until
noon local time, a Los Angeles city councilman said.

More than 300 Los Angeles-area firefighters are battling the fire in a
backlot of Universal Studios, which is adjacent to the theme park.

The park was scheduled to open on time at 9 a.m. (noon ET), despite the massive fire, a
representative from Univeral Studios told CNN earlier in the day.
