Israeli forces, Palestinians exchange fire at Hamas demonstrationPosted: 10:13 AM ET
JERUSALEM (CNN) - Israeli forces and Palestinian gunmen exchanged fire Thursday at a Hamas-organized demonstration on the Gaza-Israel border, and Palestinian sources said the violence left a 17-year-old Palestinian dead and 10 people wounded. The Israeli military confirmed the exchange of fire, but had no details on casualties. The military spokeswoman said armed Palestinians, including some with anti-tank missiles, were among the hundreds of demonstrators at Karni crossing. Palestinian sources said nearly 1,500 people participated in the Hamas-led protest at Karni crossing, the main Israel-Gaza border crossing located a few kilometers east of Gaza City. The demonstration was in protest of an Israeli blockade, imposed earlier this year in response to ongoing rocket attacks by Palestinian militants on Israel. |
