KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) — A NATO helicopter carrying the governor of Afghanistan’s Helmand province made an emergency landing Saturday after it was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade, the governor said. No one was hurt, officials said. “Of course, I was the target of the attack, but the enemies failed,” said Gov. Ghulab Mangal. The helicopter was flying the governor, other provincial officials and British military officers to inaugurate a newly-built mosque in the Musa Qala district Saturday afternoon, he said. Major Martin O’Donnell, a spokesman for NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), said the helicopter’s tail was damaged by the rocket but it was able to make a controlled landing near an ISAF forward operating base. No one on board was injured, O’Donnell said. |
