(CNN) — The date of the often delayed, bitterly disputed Zimbabwe runoff election may be announced Friday, according to local television reports. Two sources close to the Zimbabwe Election Commission said Thursday that officials have chosen June 28. Election Commission Chairman George Chiweshe would not confirm when the election will be announced or held, but said his organization has the “financing and logistics” to conduct the vote. “We will be announcing the date very soon,” said Chiweshe. “It could be tomorrow. It could be Monday. Really, any time now.” |
