Coalition troop raids: 2 killed 17 heldPosted: 11:01 AM ET
BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) - Coalition troops targeting al Qaeda in Iraq killed "two terrorists and detained three suspects" on Thursday in a raid just west of Baghdad, the U.S. military said.
Troops had been detaining "terrorist suspects" when a vehicle with two men approached. "Coalition forces ordered the men to halt and to keep their arms raised in surrender. The men refused to comply, dropping their arms abruptly. Perceiving hostile intent, Coalition forces engaged, killing the two men and later destroying the vehicle to prevent its future use in terrorist activities," the military said. Iraqi troops backed by coalition forces detained 14 people in raids targeting al Qaeda in Iraq. The raids were in Baiji and in Mosul. Iraqi forces have been conducting major offensives against the group in and around Mosul. |
