BEIRUT (CNN) — In his first public comments since violence began three days ago in Beirut, Prime Minister Fouad Siniora accused Hezbollah Saturday of trying to stage a “militant coup d’etat.”

He turned over to the Lebanese army the responsibility of resolving two issues that sparked the violence on Wednesday — the firing of the chief of security at the Beirut airport and the order that Hezbollah’s telecommunications system come under state control.

Shortly after his speech, the army issued a written statement saying it was reinstating the general, pending an investigation, and would discuss the telecommunications system to reach an agreement.
